  • There is rest when we labor with the Lord.
  • If we do not have rest in us, God can show that to us [at convention].
  • God wants us to come to the place of rest and find rest.  If we don’t find rest there, where will we find it?
  • There is rest in submission to the Lord.
  • We can toil hard and long, but if we love our master, we can find peace.
  • God has promised that we can have this rest.
  • Don’t stay on the same level: progress.  Move on to perfection.
  • Almost everybody believes in God, but how do we believe?  What is our faith?
  • God trusts us more than others.  He trusts us that we will keep faithful to Him.
  • It would be so sad if we died spiritually and never saw the promised land…if we just went around in circles and never progressed.
  • If we feel we can not get the victory, we need the Lord’s help.  We may be in great debt to the Lord for that.
  • The biggest nation in the world is imagination, and God can give us a weapon against that.
  • In our armor, the helmet is the hope of salvation.  Gladiators in the “olden days” used to try to knock the helmet off their opponent.  Satan wants to do that to us…to knock off our hope of salvation and leave our minds open to outside thoughts.
  • In the world, peacemakers are not that common, but in God’s family, they are everywhere.
  • As a tree grows, you see less and less of the ground.  As the gospel grows, you see less and less of the human.
  • There is no way to be in the spirit on the Lord’s day if we are not in the spirit for the whole week.
  • “Your ‘I will’ is more important than your IQ.”  Jesus is the same way.  We need to be willing.
  • If we are building without guidance from the Bible, we are building in vain.
  • We don’t like obstacles, but they can give us a song.  (Like rocks in a brook.)
  • The body changes, but the soul and spirit are immortal and don’t change.  The body is like the house.  In the house is a tenet (soul), which has a personality (spirit).
  • Things that do not change:
    • How we are born/come into the earth
    • The purpose of life
    • The Bible
    • God’s promises
    • The Lord, for which we should give thanks to Him for
  • The business of life is a threat to the growth of the seed of life.
  • Repentance is going to mean a change.  We better not be the same yesterday, today, and forever.  We need to change
  • Peter repented to the Lord just for doubting one small thing the Lord said. (Referring to when they had fished all night and had caught nothing.)
  • We are given repentance because God knew we would be sinners.
  • When we fight a battle, we do not win by courage, but by the presence and help of the host of Heaven.
  • We can not be casual in our service to God.
  • When we make sacrifices here on earth, the savor (or spirit, or what we had in our heart when we made the sacrifice) is what goes up to God.  There is a sweet savor that goes up to God when we deny our self.
  • We need to remember who we are dealing with—He is the Lord.
  • When two animals are in a yoke, they can not fight.  That is the same when we are in a yoke with Jesus.
  • There is an epistle of Christ: you and me.  This is the epistle God is most interested in.
  • Demons that can control the spirit:
    • lack of self-control
    • loneliness
    • unwillingness
    • bad thoughts of the past
  • Zeal is not a lack of reasoning, it is love on fire.
  • Mercy is more than we can expect of God’s kindness.
  • If there is any cry from us to God, Christ will hear it…and maybe he will convey that to the servants.
  • We know what God can do because we have witnessed it in others.
  • The best way to preach the word of God is by example.
  • God does not understand when we say we love Him but do not spend time with Him.
  • [Story told by E. Hoest] In the Philippians, Hoest and his companion went to see a professing grandmother at her home.  When they got there, she was gone, but her husband was there, so they stayed and talked to him about God, scripture, and other things.  All the while, the man’s grandson was there.  He never said a word, but watched them the whole while in unspoken excitement: probably the first time he had ever seen a white person.  Soon, Hoest and his companion left for the home where they would spend the night (it was Saturday), also the home of the Sunday meeting.  That next day after meeting, Hoest talked to the grandmother and she told him what her grandson had said to her when she had gotten home that night: “Grandma, Grandma!  I saw God!”  [This was followed by laughter, but Hoest brought out a serious thought from that…]  Do people see God in us?
  • If God is for us, who can be against us?
  • We would want to have the testimony that we walked with God and that we pleased Him.
  • Victory or failure is going to show.
  • If we have the fear of God now, we will not have to fear His wrath.
  • Faith is not trying to believe the word of God regardless of evidence, it is daring to live it regardless of consequence.
  • We can always lower ourselves to the place of a servant.
  • Jesus came to this earth and gave and gave until He gave Himself in the end.
  • Jesus took our debt of sin and left us with a debt of gratitude.
  • The repentant heart says “I’m sorry, I’m willing, and I’m changing.”
  • Everything in Heaven and Earth belongs to God because He made it.
  • It would take all eternity to see all of the treasures of Heaven.
  • We need to daily correct our course.
