Our Duty
We have a duty to fulfill in our walk with God.  That duty is to be an example unto the people of the world, as well as the people of God’s Kingdom.  If we just profess, attend meetings, take part, and that’s it, we are not doing much for the Kingdom.  If we don’t even try to spread God’s word, it seems that we might not even care if the word of God prospers or not.  If we don’t do anything for God, why should he do anything for us?  If we are not doing what is required of us, we might be facing eternal doom.  Throughout the Bible, we read many accounts of where people were examples of the word of God.  I can not mention all of them, but I will list a couple.

Thessalonians 1:7  Here, Paul is writing a letter to the people of Thessalonica.  He mentions in this verse that the Thessalonians were “ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.”  Verse 8 continues on to mention that the word of God continued to spread abroad.  Here, many people benefited from these Thessalonians doing their part.

I Timothy 4:12  In this verse, Paul tells Timothy, “be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”  We are to be an example of the word of God, of his Kingdom.  Paul defines in what ways we should be an example.  We can not be an example of God’s Kingdom if we are not opening our mouth and speaking of his Kingdom.  We have to tell of his great love and mercy.  People are not going to benefit, if we don’t tell them.  Second, we have to put our spirit into it.  Our example is nothing if there is not spirit, because the spirit is the heart of our example.  If there is no spirit, there is nothing.  I think we often fail to recognize the importance of spirit.  If we have no faith in what we are trying to be an example of, how can we manage to be an example of that?  If we don’t believe it, how can we prove it?  If we are to be an example of this Kingdom, we have to have faith in this Kingdom.  Finally, our example has to be pure.  What comes to mind here, is that we need to “apply the whole Bible to our lives.”  We need to teach everything, honestly, and completely.  To me, that is pure.  The whole story, and the true story.

If we can just do our duty, be an example of the Kingdom of God, then God may help us.
